Tim Sullivan
Born in 1974 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Tim Sullivan received his BA from Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington (1999) and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (2004). Sullivan has had solo exhibitions at Collectors Contemporary, Singapore (2008); Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles (2008); Lisa Dent Gallery, San Francisco (2007) and the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery (2005). Sullivan’s work was also featured in the California Biennial, Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach (2006). Tim Sullivan often uses self-portraiture as a way to appropriate the vision of his artist forebearers. Casting himself in staged performances that often take the form of large color photographs, film, intervention or video, Sullivan uses pop culture, personal history, art history, and folklore as raw material to examine issues of memory, the body, architecture, landscape and sexuality.
